Briar: the upcoming Legaue Of Legends’ champion
The champion roadmap of April 2023 revealed juicy details about the new champions coming to the League of Legends roster. Among them is Briar, a character that is expected to explore a completely new theme and gameplay, at least according to the developers.
At the moment, there are very few details about Briar, as we don’t even know what their natural role will be. However, we do know that the core concept of this character will revolve around “satisfying an insatiable hunger,” similar to what we’ve seen and will see with Naafiri.
Let’s take a look at everything we know about the upcoming champion, drawing directly from the developers’ words.
Everything we know about Briar
An insatiable hunger
As mentioned earlier, we don’t know what Briar’s role will be. However, based on what the League of Legends developers have reported, we can speculate and make some assumptions. Given the theme of an “insatiable hunger,” we believe Briar could be a mage similar to Vladimir, gradually devouring their enemies.
Furthermore, based on the recent champions released (an ADC, an assassin, and an enchanting support), we believe Briar could be a unique top laner or possibly even a jungler. It would be challenging to introduce another mid laner, but not impossible. Riot aims to release approximately six champions per year, one for each role except the mid lane, which would have two.
In this particular lane, assassins and mages coexist, and Riot wants to maintain that balance with the new champions. So, it’s not out of the question that Briar could find a place in the mid lane as a hungry mage, especially since the assassin will be released shortly (referring to Naafiri).
Lastly, we must inform you that we don’t have a release date for Briar yet. Naafiri is coming to the live servers this week, so we speculate that Briar could debut shortly before the end of the year.
