Activision Blizzard ha trovato un accordo con la EEOC

Blizzard – E’ stato da poco diffuso un comunicato stampa ufficiale di Activision Blizzard in cui viene segnalato l’accordo raggiunto tra l’azienda e la U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (altrimenti nota come EEOC), nell’ambito di una delle inchieste scaturite ai danni di Blizz dopo lo scandalo molestie/discriminazioni sessuali di questa estate (questa vicenda con l’EEOC non ha nulla a che vedere con l’inchiesta del DFEH o della SEC).

Da quanto comunicato nel press release, si evince che Activision Blizzard si dovrà impegnare su molteplici aspetti per garantire sempre e comunque tutti i diritti di tutti i suoi lavoratori. Per prima cosa Activision Blizzard si impegna ad istituire un fondo di risarcimento di 18 milioni di Dollari destinato alle vittime degli abusi interne all’azienda.

Blizzard si deve inoltre impegnare ad aggiornare le sue politiche e la formazione del personale al fine di scongiurare eventuali altre situazioni che riguardino abusi, discriminazioni e molestie sul posto di lavoro. Sempre Blizzard dovrà anche assumere un consulente esterno, una figura in tutto e per tutto neutrale, che si occuperà di pari opportunità all’interno dell’azienda: questo nuovo consulente prima di essere assunto dovrà ricevere l’OK della commissione dell’Equal Employment Opportunity.

Il lavoro di questo consulente verrà seguito a stretto giro dalla commissione, a cui verranno mandati frequenti report riguardo alla situazione interna all’azienda. Questi stessi report saranno mandati dal consulente anche alla dirigenza di Blizzard, cosi che non si crei mai la situazione per la quale l’EEOC è a conoscenza di situazioni interne all’azienda che non sono invece note agli attuali dirigenti.

Oltre a tutto questo vi sarà poi anche la figura di un vero e proprio coordinatore dell’EEO, una persona che dovrà avere maturato molta esperienza nel campo della discriminazione di genere, delle molestie e delle relative ritorsioni, cosi da fungere da importante supporto a Blizzard ed al consulente esterno affinché tutti i punti del piano vengano attuati.

The Company Will Also Develop Tools and Training Programs to Assist Efforts to Improve Workplace Experiences

SANTA MONICA, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Sep. 27, 2021– Activision Blizzard (Nasdaq: ATVI) today confirmed that, as part of its effort to have the most welcoming, inclusive workplace, it has reached an agreement with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) to settle claims and to further strengthen policies and programs to prevent harassment and discrimination in the company’s workplace. Under the agreement, the principal terms of which are summarized in Attachment A to this press release, Activision Blizzard has committed to create an $18 million fund to compensate and make amends to eligible claimants. Any amounts not used for claimants will be divided between charities that advance women in the video game industry or promote awareness around harassment and gender equality issues as well as company diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives, as approved by the EEOC. The agreement is subject to court approval.

The company also announced an initiative to develop software tools and training programs to improve workplace policies and practices for employers across the technology industry.

Commenting on the agreement, Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick said: “There is no place anywhere at our company for discrimination, harassment, or unequal treatment of any kind, and I am grateful to the employees who bravely shared their experiences. I am sorry that anyone had to experience inappropriate conduct, and I remain unwavering in my commitment to make Activision Blizzard one of the world’s most inclusive, respected, and respectful workplaces.”

Kotick added: “We will continue to be vigilant in our commitment to the elimination of harassment and discrimination in the workplace. We thank the EEOC for its constructive engagement as we work to fulfill our commitments to eradicate inappropriate conduct in the workplace.”

In addition to the agreed funds, the company is taking additional steps, including:

  • Upgrading policies, practices, and training to further prevent and eliminate harassment and discrimination in its workplaces, including implementing an expanded performance review system with a new equal opportunity focus;
  • Providing ongoing oversight and review of the Company’s training programs, investigation policies, disciplinary framework and compliance by appointing a third-party equal opportunity consultant whose findings will be regularly reported to our Board of Directors as well as the Commission.

Summary of Agreement

Below is a summary of the principal terms of the agreement with the EEOC, which is subject to approval by the United States District Court for the Central District of California.

  • Creation of an $18 million fund, with any amounts not used for claimants divided between contributions to non-profit organizations whose mission involves advancing women in the video game and tech sectors or who promote awareness around sexual harassment and gender equality and further investments in diversity and inclusion efforts at the Company that go beyond what we agreed to with the EEOC, all as approved by the EEOC.
  • The Company will upgrade policies, practices, and training to prevent and eliminate harassment and discrimination in the workplace, including implementing an expanded performance review system with a new equal opportunity focus;
  • The Company will engage a neutral, third-party equal employment opportunity consultant – a non-employee who must be approved by the EEOC – who will provide ongoing oversight of the Company’s compliance with the agreement. This independent consultant’s findings will be reported directly to the EEOC and Activision Blizzard’s Board of Directors; and

Si conclude cosi una prima importante parte dello scandalo abusi sessuali legati ad alcuni membri dello staff Blizzard (praticamente tutti ormai licenziati o dimessi dall’azienda). Non appena disponibili, provvederemo a pubblicare nuovi e più dettagliati aggiornamenti riguardo le altre due inchieste che procedono nella loro fase di sviluppo, ovvero quello con la SEC e la DFEH.

Con la Stagione 3 ormai alle porte per MW3, gli sviluppatori hanno svelato la roadmap dei contenuti in arrivo a partire dal 3 aprile.

La quantità di contenuti è veramente impressionante, con numerose nuove mappe, modalità di gioco e molto altro in cui tuffarsi.

La roadmap ha colpito profondamente la community, che ora guarda in modo diametralmente diverso al futuro non solo di MW3 come gioco singolo, ma anche di CoD come serie.

Nel post di annuncio gli sviluppatori hanno annunciato l’aggiornamento come un totale rinnovamento del comparto gameplay, con tante novità: “Un aggiornamento generazionale da SHG. 6 mappe, 3 giubbotti, alcuni nuovi perk, nuove armi…”.

I recenti sviluppi riguardo il terribile evento che si è consumato lo scorso 19 Febbraio nello stato dello Utah (USA), hanno creato un certo malcontento, soprattutto trai fan di Call Of Duty e Warzone.

L’arrivo dei soccorsi sul posto per un presunto suic**io aveva anticipato una brevissima investigazione, a seguito della quale un ragazzino di appena 9 anni era stato arrestato con l’accusa di aver ucciso a sangue freddo il padre.

Oggi, a distanza di un mese da questo efferato delitto, la Polizia locale ha fornito una ricostruzione dell’accaduto.

Call of Duty NON è il colpevole, ma per gli agenti sì: ecco come si è svolto l’efferato delitto

Secondo il report la vittima, un uomo di 32 anni, e suo figlio, erano andati a letto presto in una stanza condivisa nella casa familiare con altri otto inquilini. Durante la stessa notte, il figlio della vittima sarebbe uscito dalla stanza e avrebbe informato gli altri familiari che vivevano lì che suo padre stava sanguinando.

Secondo i resoconti della scena, la vittima “è stata colpita alla nuca e presentava lacerazioni alla testa, al viso, alle mani e alle braccia”. Nel mandato di arresto si indica che di trattava di “ferite da difesa”.

I soccorritori hanno ritrovato una pistola scarica ed un’accetta Tomahawk (arma bianca anticamente usata dagli Indiani d’America, oggi molto in voga nel mondo dei videogiochi) ricoperta di sangue. Nel mandato d’arresto, gli agenti delle forze dell’ordine hanno dichiarato che il ragazzo soffriva di “problemi comportamentali” e guardava spesso contenuti video e giocava a videogiochi non adatti alla propria età.

Il principale tra i giochi citati è stato Call of Duty: Warzone che, secondo il mandato d’arresto, “incorpora nel gameplay le stesse armi che sono state trovate e utilizzate per compiere questo efferato gesto, ossia una pistola di tipo Glock da 9 mm e un tomahawk”.

Nel mandato d’arresto si precisa inoltre che le informazioni contenute nello smartphone e nel tablet del ragazzo verranno utilizzate per indicare “come e/o perché questi specifici metodi e armi sono stati utilizzati nell’omicidio”.

Cattura la Bandiera su MW3 – Grazie ad un nuovo “teaser” rilasciato da uno sviluppatore di Activision su Reddit, sembrano esserci ormai pochissimi dubbi rispetto all’imminente ritorno di una storica modalità multiplayer.

Stiamo parlando nello specifico di Cattura la Bandiera, mode da sempre (o quasi) presente sui Call of Duty che forse più di ogni altra manca ai giocatori di Modern Warfare 3.

Cattura la Bandiera è stata “richiesta” da un giocatore all’interno di un thread di Activision dedicato ai “desideri della community”, ed ha attirato l’attenzione dei devs di Sledgehammer Games.

Uno di questi ha infatti inserito un’emoji con due occhi sgranati sotto al commento del player, un chiaro “teaser” rispetto al fatto che in Sledgehammer avevano già pensato a “Cattura la Bandiera” per il prossimo futuro della playlist multiplayer.

Chissà se la nuova modalità tornerà già entro la prossima Stagione. Ricordiamo infatti che la Season 3 è prevista in uscita il 3 Aprile, e sappiamo ancora pochissimo rispetto ai contenuti che questa introdurrà.

Non appena saranno disponibili, non esiteremo a pubblicare nuovi e più dettagliati update sulla questione.
